My name is Nina Guido and I am currently a senior graphic design student at the State University of New York at New Paltz.

This project is dedicated to those who are in long term recovery from opioid addiction in New York State. These stories are featured in a crafted set of printed zines (mini magazines), a website and an Instagram campaign to highlight each individual's recovery journey.

I have been impacted by addiction in my own family. My mother was addicted to alcohol for most of her life and I made the choice to leave her at the age of 13. After this happened, my brother became addicted to opioids for a few years. Fortunately, he was inspired by the story of Brandon Novak and he decided to reach out for help. He is now over 1 year in recovery (as of fall 2020) and I am so grateful for that. I know there are so many other people out there who know a person dealing with addiction or who have experienced addiction themselves. My hope with this project is that I can use my own experiences to fuel a design project that will highlight that recovery is possible as well as inspire other individuals to reach out for help and help end stigma.
